THE TEA: EVERYTHING GUCCI

oK SO WHERE DO I BEGIN... WE ALL KNOW IN FASHION WHEN YOU FLIP THROUGH MAGAZINES, CHECK OUT RUNWAY SHOWS, OR EVEN HEAR ABOUT THE LATEST TRENDS-- YOU ALMOST NEVER SEE BLACK FACES, OR ANYTHING GIVING ACKNOWLEDGEMENT TO BLACK CULTURE. INSTEAD, YOU SEE 80% OF MEDIA CATERING TO A WHITE MARKET, OR BLACK CULTURE BEING APPROPRIATED LIKE " HEY GIRL THANKS FOR LETTING US BORROW YOUR afro wig, and booby pins ON OUR WHITE MODEL" NOW LETS BE CLEAR I LOVE WHITE PEOPLE- YOU GUYS ARE TRULY ONE OF A KIND, JUST LIKE ANY OTHER RACE. BUT ACKNOWLEDGEMENT WILL FOREVER GO A LONG WAY! SO WHEN I CAME ACROSS THIS GUCCI CAMPAIGN IT STRUCK A LOVE CORD IN MY HEART, POSSIBLY EVEN DROPPED A THUG TEAR. THANKS GUCCI FOR CELEBRATING BLACK CULTURE WITH THE USE OF BLACK MODELS, DOING WHAT WE LOVE TO DO, IN STYLE.

But, this is where things got messy...

In Gucci's latest cruise collection a piece came down the runway which made people totally flip! tHE IMAGE TO THE LEFT IS A DAPPER DAN ORIGINAL, AND TO THE RIGHT IS gucci. dapper dan was the man with a plan in THE 80's. again, media not catering to black culture dapper dan took popular fashion house monograms and used it to recreate items that were catered to black culture making it one of a kind--outdoing many of the fashion houseS THEMSELVES. as a result of his success, HE WAS FORCED TO STOP HIS ORIGINAL CREATIONS, DUE TO A RAID THAT VIEWED HIS WORK AS 'INFRINGING ON INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY'. (THE DEVIL NEVER WANTS YOU TO WIN) BUT, YEARS LATER IN GUCCI'S LATEST COLLECTION LOOK WHO INFRINGED ON WHO?! THE IRONY.. nOW, WE CAN EASILY VIEW THIS AS TOTALLY FUCKED UP, OR SEE IT AS GUCCI PAYING HOMAGE TO SOMEONE WHO CLEARLY INFLUENCED FASHION CULTURE IN THE 80S... WHAT DO YOU THINK?
